    4 arrested after Lubbock police chase with stolen vehicle ends in crash

    Four people were arrested following an officer-involved pursuit of a stolen vehicle that ended with a crash early Sunday in central Lubbock.The pursuit began about 1:40 a.m. Sunday after police located a stolen car in the in the 2200 block of Avenue V and attempted a traffic stop, according to a statement from Lubbock police.The driver of the car evaded officers, prompting a pursuit.Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears the car was traveling east in the 1600 block of 32nd Street when it collided at 1:44 a.m. with a SUV, driven by 21-year-old Azariah Hernandez, traveling north in the 3200 block.The car then collided with a fence at a nearby middle school.At the time of the collision, police say 17-year-old Makayla Mermella, along with two juveniles, attempted to escape on foot but were taken into custody. A K-9 officer was deployed to locate another female juvenile following the foot pursuit. A third juvenile remained at the scene and was also taken into custody.A female juvenile passenger, one of the four people inside the car, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.No one was injured in the SUV.Other details about the incident were not immediately released as an investigation is ongoing.
