LUBBOCK, Texas – According to a press release, Lubbock Christian High School has been recognized as the most outstanding 3A private school in Texas for the second consecutive year.

Ranked first out of 40 schools in their classification, Lubbock Christian received the Henderson Cup from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) for the 2023-2024 school year. The Henderson Cup is awarded to the school that accumulates the most points through excellence in athletics, academics and fine arts competitions.

“Inspired by Hebrews 12:1, which says, ‘… Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,’ we recognize that receiving this prestigious award for two consecutive years is a testament to the relentless hard work and dedication of our students and educators,” said Hutch Haley, LCS President. “This honor reflects their commitment to excellence and pursuit of something greater. LCS is proud to lead the way for the state, and we’re determined to maintain this momentum. Let’s keep soaring, Eagles!”

According to TAPPS, each year, they recognize an overall champion in each of the classifications, 1A through 6A. The champion is determined by the amount of points each school earns in the TAPPS Championships held throughout the school year. A cup and plaque commemorating the school’s success are presented to the school for display during the year.

“Winning back-to-back Henderson Cup championships is a great accomplishment, but it is the investment in our students that will make the biggest impact on this world,” said Chris Softley, LCS Athletic Director. “Here at Lubbock Christian School, we strive to be authentically gospel-centered on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, and our success in all these areas is simply a by-product of faithfulness to that worthy pursuit. This award is another reminder of the special place that is Lubbock Christian School. It is a great time to be an Eagle!”

This accomplishment marks the fifth time in Lubbock Christian School’s history they have achieved the highest state ranking for 2023-2024, thus placing them as the all-time leader for private schools in West Texas. They previously won this achievement in 1990, 2003 and 2005 before winning the award in back-to-back years.
