With action in the transfer portal slowing down, it is time to take a closer look at how each P4 school did during this cycle. Up now are the Texas Tech Red Raiders

The skinny: In his two seasons in charge, head coach Joey McGuire has guided Texas Tech to an 15-11 mark and two bowl victories. He has done so without a deep reliance on the transfer portal, which isn’t the norm nowadays. However, that does not mean that Texas Tech doesn't add players at positions of need, which was the case during this cycle at both wide receiver and the offensive line.

Total # entries into portal: 26

Total # of scholarship players who entered portal: 22

Number of scholarship players who withdrew: 1

Key losses: WR Jerand Bradley (Boston College), WR Myles Price (Indiana), LB Jesiah Pierre (UCF)

Key additions: WR Josh Kelly (Washington State), WR Caleb Douglas (Florida), OL Sterling Porcher (Middle Tennessee State), OL Vinny Sciury (Toledo), P Jack Burgess (Weber State), OL Davion Carter (Memphis)

Final thoughts: The Red Raiders lost several wide receivers to the portal, most notably Jerand Bradley and Myles Price , who combined for 253 receptions, 3,015 yards and 20 touchdowns during their time in Lubbock. They responded by adding Josh Kelly and Caleb Douglas , who will be immediate replacements. The other major concern during the offseason was on the offensive line, which is more of a blurry picture. Expect Sterling Porcher and Vinny Sciury to be day one starters, while Davion Carter will be a valuable and versatile depth piece. Finally, Jack Burgess arrives as one of the top FCS punters in the nation. As coach McGuire continues to build his culture at Texas Tech, his use of the portal, while not as aggressive as others, will still play a valuable role in the team’s success in 2024 and beyond.
