The NMSP investigation began last year after an audit revealed discrepancies in Neil’s timecard submissions and overtime claims. Investigators found “substantial” evidence showing Neil had falsified time records, claiming overtime for hours he didn’t work.

Neil was placed on administrative leave on December 7, 2023, as an internal investigation was launched. Neil was eligible for retirement and submitted his paperwork to retire on January 1, 2024.

Neil turned himself into NMSP on Tuesday, July 23. He was booked into the Grant County Detention Center for Fraud and 55 counts of Paying or Receiving Public Money for Services Not Rendered and Making or Permitting False Public Vouchers.

Neil worked for NMSP for over 24 years.
