Lubbock police are still searching for the mother of a baby reportedly found in an East Lubbock dumpster on July 21.

The search began after a man called 911 saying he found a newborn boy in a dumpster early that Sunday morning in the 2700 block of East Third Street, which prompted LPD to search for the mother of the baby.

"We are specifically asking for help locating her in order to check on and verify her health and well-being," reads a Lubbock police statement last week.

According to previous reporting, the child was taken to a local hospital and would stay there until the doctors found that the child was healthy enough to be released.

The A-J was able to obtain the LPD call sheet from the incident, which sheds some light on the event surrounding someone finding the baby in the dumpster.

A reporting party called 911 dispatch around 3:54 a.m., reporting that someone had dropped off a newborn baby at her house, and advised dispatch the baby was fine, healthy, and breathing.

Officers were dispatched three minutes later and arrived on the scene at 4:02 a.m., where officers met the person who said he found the baby in a bag in the dumpster and that the baby was "covered in blood."

CPS was then notified of the situation and EMS transported the baby to a local hospital.

Around 5:58 a.m., officers advised the hospital to be on the lookout for "any females who present with issues related to giving birth outside of a hospital setting or under suspicious circumstances."

At 9:42 a.m., Covenant Medical Center said that the hospital had a few females presenting with abdominal pains but didn't know if they had given birth. UMC and CMC Women's and Children's did not report having any patients matching the criteria.

LPD informed the A-J on Friday that it was still searching for the mother and that anyone with any information about the mother, the child, or information leading up to the discovery of the child is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000 . You can remain anonymous.
