Ex-Lubbock man shot and killed by woman’s estranged husband

LUBBOCK, Texas — Clifton Lee Johnson, 38, formerly of Lubbock, was shot and killed by a woman’s estranged husband at an apartment complex in Cypress on Monday, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

HSCO said the woman was living at the apartment and had moved there to get away from her estranged husband. Authorities said the woman was in the apartment with Johnson, her friend, when her estranged husband started kicking in the door. The suspect, Kerry Cunningham, was eventually able to get inside.

According to HCSO, Cunningham found Johnson hiding and started arguing with him. HSCO said Cunningham shot Johnson.

Cunningham was charged with Capital Murder. He was taken to the Harris County Jail.
