    Body found on side of Lufkin road identified

    LUFKIN, Texas ( KETK ) – The City of Lufkin released an update regarding a dead body that was found on July 2 .

    According to a release from the city, the body that was found on July 2 in the 100 block of Collins Street has been identified as David Meinerding, 67 of Lufkin. The update added that upon their arrival to the scene, officers encountered aggressive dogs.

    The City of Lufkin said that it is currently unclear whether or not the dogs had any involvement in Meinerding’s death. The city added that the autopsy report will clarify any possible involvement the dogs had and foul play is not suspected.

    According to the release, an officer was bit during the investigation, leading to two of the dogs being “dispatched.” The officer received medical care and has returned to duty.

    Any additional information is currently unknown until the autopsy is completed and reported.

    “Detectives confirmed Meinerding’s identity through fingerprint analysis and have notified his family, who reside out of state,” according to a statement from the city. “Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
