An overnight fire in Calvert County put a damper on Fourth of July celebrations for a homeowner in Huntingtown. First responders were called shortly after 10:15 p.m. on Thursday night to a home on Walton Road, when a passerby reported flames showing from a sheet metal barn in the area.

Allen Ray McGrew, 41, succumbed to injuries sustained when a large firework device he placed on his head exploded. Horse Rescued After Falling Through Pool Cover In Huntingtown
HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — Emergency personnel responded to an unusual call yesterday evening, July 3, 2024, when a horse fell through a pool cover on the 800 Block of Warner Drive. Crews arrived on the scene to find a horse named “Slick” stuck in the shallow end of an empty pool. Members of the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department quickly removed the pool cover from around Slick’s neck.
