The Deanwood Radio Broadcast Youth Journalism program is run by the Department of Parks and Recreation in D.C., and led by director and instructor Salih Williams. Since 2007, it has delivered on its goal of engaging and educating young people in D.C. about broadcast journalism and how it can help to foster a positive outcome in their communities.

17-Year-Old Sentenced to 35 Years for Wheaton Metro Murder
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Marybeth Ayres sentenced defendant, Emmanuel Simmonds, 17, of Gaithersburg, to life in prison suspend all but 35 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. Judge Ayres recommended that Simmonds be admitted to the Patuxent Youthful Offenders program while incarcerated. The sentencing hearing was held Friday, July 26, 2024.
