Family And NAACP Demand Justice After Police Fail To Notify Of Son’s Death
Tori Thompson was found dead in a hotel parking lot in July of 2023 and police failed to notify his family before cremating his body. The Arlington chapter of the NAACP in Virginia has dedicated itself to supporting the family of Tori Thompson, who died last year of a fentanyl overdose outside of a motel. According to Thompson’s family, they weren’t told the 33-year-old was dead until his ashes were sent to their home more than four months later. The family is calling for answers from the Arlington Police Department for reportedly failing to notify Thompson’s loved ones of his passing.

Federalsburg apartment fire displaces 14
A July 5 fire at the Federalsburg Manor Apartments displaced 14 people, according to a report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. There were no injuries reported in the fire, which broke out shortly after 7 p.m. and took 30 firefighters about 30 minutes to control. The blaze resulted in an estimated $400,000 in damages. According to the fire marshal’s report, the fire was discovered in the bedroom of an apartment by the apartment’s occupant, who attempted to extinguish the blaze with a bucket of water but was unsuccessful. The occupant then called 911. The American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced by the fire.

“Mass Casualty Incident” Shuts Down Several Lanes on 355 Saturday Afternoon
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a crash on Route 355 Frederick Road and Shakespeare Boulevard in Germantown on Saturday afternoon. The collision involved two vehicles with multiple injuries (at least 6 patients), and has been declared a “mass casualty incident” according to MCFRS chief spokesperson Pete Piringer. Some lanes were blocked, but it appears the scene has been cleared by 2:50pm.

The Interfaith Works Women’s Center is currently in need of funding after a July 4 fire displaced 34 women and 16 staff members. Per Interfaith Works: “Midday on the 4th of July, there was an electrical fire at the IW Women’s Center at Crabbs Branch. Thanks to the quick work of the staff and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, there were no injuries, but 34 women and 16 staff were displaced.
