GONZALES, La. (WAFB) - This November, the people of Gonzales will choose a new mayor for the first time in 16 years, after Barney Arceneaux stepped down from the position back in March. So far, the candidates who have qualified are Tim Riley, Harold Stewart, and Kemlyn Bailey Lomas. Terance Irvin has not qualified yet but tells us he will before the Friday deadline.

Earlier today Tim Riley qualified for the November 5 contest to elect the City of Gonzales’ next mayor. The current city council member has never hidden his long-term aspirations to seek Gonzales’ chief executive post. Without an elected incumbent on the ballot, Riley has to be considered a frontrunner for the job.
A first for Sorrento: Teen establishes little free library to improve access to books
A Sorrento teenager recently unveiled the town’s first “Little Free Library," hoping to help improve the community's access to free books. The library, which is a small, outdoor book exchange located by the Sorrento Community Center on Main Street, is open 24/7 and is part of a wider movement led by a Minnesota nonprofit. Alongside the help of community members, Olivia Kidder, 15, was the driving force behind the project and unveiled it at 9 a.m. Monday.

Two Louisiana-based firms—JRE Capital and Ratcliff Development—are partnering to develop a new logistics park on 186 acres of farmland in Geismar.
