Two Meriwether County firefighters injured after fire engine hydroplanes, overturns
Two firefighters from Meriwether County are recovering from minor injuries after their fire engine hydroplaned and overturned on Sunday night around 6:30 p.m. The fire engine was responding to a vehicle accident on Georgia Highway 85, north of Gay, when it hit water on the roadway, hydroplaned and overturned. The truck reportedly hit The Silo Steakhouse when it crashed.

James W. Thompson, 21, from St. Simons Island, has set a new state record for almaco jack (Seriola rivoliana). On Sunday, July 28, Thompson caught a remarkable 27-pound, 8-ounce almaco jack offshore near Navy Tower R4. This catch surpasses the previous record of 23 pounds, 15.04 ounces, established by Jason H. Rich of McRae-Helena in May.

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish will head to a Georgia courtroom in August to fight a 2022 DUI charge. The actor and comedian was detained on the morning of Jan. 14, 2022, after Peachtree City Police got a call regarding a driver asleep at the wheel on a highway, Assistant Police Chief Matt Myers said in a news release.
