City of Newnan to propose increase in 2024 property taxes
The City of Newnan announced on Friday its intentions to increase the 2024 property taxes it will levy this year by 20.23 percent over the rollback millage rate. Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the county. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicate there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.

ESPN ranks Georgia's David Pollack among College football's top 25 players of the 21st century
This week saw ESPN statistician Bill Connelly attempt to rank college football's top 25 players of the 21st century. Georgia defensive lineman David Pollack, who played from 2001-04, made the list, coming in at No. 15 overall. Pollack is the No. 6 ranked defensive player on the list and the No. 2 defensive end, with Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh at No. 1, Miami safety Ed Reed at No. 5, Arizona State defensive end Terrell Suggs at No. 11, Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack at No. 13, and Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald at No. 14.
Toccoa Municipal Court Hearing Results in Shutdown of Regency Inn
In Toccoa, a local motel that police say has become a hub of criminal activity has been ordered to shut down for 30 days. During a Toccoa Municipal Court session last week, Judge Robert Sneed heard testimony from Toccoa Chief of Police Jimmy Mize and statements from City Attorney John Dickerson as well as testimony and comments from Gopal Pal, resident manager of Regency Inn on West Currahee Street in Toccoa, and Pal’s attorney James Irvin.
