Two Maine students were among 150 winners across the country of a nationwide essay contest reflecting on what America means to them. The two students from Acton and Oxford were among 75 second-place winners of “America’s Field Trip,” a national competition encouraging students to reflect on what America means to them. Each second-place winner wins a $500 cash prize, while first-place awardees receive special behind-the-scenes experiences at American historical or cultural sites, such as the Statue of Liberty in New York City, or the Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

Storms bring lightning, damage to Maine with more on the horizon
MAINE — Several strong, even severe, storms moved through Maine Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rain, strong, gusty winds and a lot of lightning. City Council Approves Nomination of Biddeford’s Next Assessor
The Biddeford City Council has approved City Manager James Bennett’s nomination of Deanne Vail as the City of Biddeford’s next Assessor. Vail joined the City of Biddeford as the Assistant Assessor in April 2022. She came to the City as an experienced Certified Maine Assessor Level 2, having previously served as the Deputy Assessor for the Town of Bar Harbor and a Property Appraiser at Maine Revenue Services.
