State Funds on the Way for Scotland Ave. Improvements
State funds are on the way thanks to a grant from the state Department of Transportation (DOT). In a July 19 press release, State Senator Christine Cohen (D12) announced that $800,000 would be heading to Madison for Scotland Avenue roadway improvements. The town has been working on improving walkability on Scotland Avenue for more than a decade, adding crosswalks and sidewalks as part of various projects. A 2023 Road Safety Assessment (RSA) report identified Scotland Avenue as having no sidewalks or bicycle facilities, along with a concern about lane widths. A long-term solution offered in the report suggested creating a shared-use path or the installation of a sidewalk with striped bike lanes.

Clinton Eyes Economic Development Assistance
In an effort to promote development and manage relationships with the local business community, the search is on in Clinton for a part-time economic development coordinator. The idea for the position, which would function as someone to act as a liaison between the Clinton business community and the town, dates back several years, first broached in 2021. At that time, former Town Manager Karl Kilduff said, “The intent of the position would be to better connect with existing businesses to understand their needs [and] growth opportunities and aid in navigating the process to foster expansion of existing businesses in Clinton.”
Tylerville Roundabouts Project: Two Week Look-Ahead
(July 23, 2024) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has provided the following two-week lookahead for the Roundabouts project in the Tylerville section of Haddam:. Drainage will be installed from the Tylerville garage, moving toward the Northern Roundabout. This work will be completed during overnight hours. Drivers should anticipate alternating one-way traffic along Route 154 for this work; however, much of the work is in the shoulder area and the contractor has indicated that they may be able to maintain two lanes of traffic.
