(WJW) – Local leaders want Northeast Ohio residents to have a safe and fun July 4 holiday.

Cuyahoga County Emergency Management, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, along with Lyndhurst Fire, gathered Tuesday morning to talk about the holiday.

Here are some of their tips:

    • Keep a weather radio for any emergency alerts
    • Be aware of heat-related illnesses (heat exhaustion, stroke)
    • Make sure you wear sunscreen
    • Practicing boat and water safety
    • Stay hydrated

Emergency officials said 911 sees three to four times the call volume on the July 4 holiday. They ask that people use 911 for emergencies only.

Noise complaints should be reported to local police via their non-emergency line.

“Leave the fireworks to professionals,” Cuyahoga County Sheriff Harold Pretel added.

Sheriff Pretel asked that people report any suspicious activity to a person in uniform.
