Championship-winning coaches and athletes setting records standing the test of time are just some of the greats from Mosley High.

Today we dive into the third part of the News Herald's "High School Athletics Mount Rushmore" series. The series features all six Bay County schools, highlighting the significant and quintessential figures of the athletic programs at each school.

The mountain's players and coaches are determined by their impact on the program, the community and beyond. We at the News Herald appreciate our readers and would love to get you involved.

Accompanying each article is a poll to vote for someone you believe would be in a fifth spot on the mountain.

    Bob Hunt

Hunt built the wrestling program from the ground up when he was named head coach in 1973. Twenty-seven seasons later, Hunt boasted a 385-20 record which included 17 county championships, 12 district titles and three regional titles.

The program produced six state-champion wrestlers, and the Dolphins' best team result came in the 1981 season when they finished state runners-up.

    Doug Lee

Lee propelled the Dolphins' baseball program to incredible heights in his five-year tenure. He led Mosley to the Class 6A state championship game in 1999 and years later cemented his legacy with a Class 5A state title in 2002.

Lee won four county championships, four district championships, two regional championships and FHSAA 5A Coach of the Year.

Lee has been the athletic director at Mosley since 2020 and will be the head coach of the baseball team once again this upcoming season.

    Gene McGuire

McGuire was a member of the late 1990s Dolphins football teams and earned a scholarship to play at Notre Dame. The 6-foot-2 center was selected with the 95th pick, in the fourth round, by the New Orleans Saints in the 1992 NFL Draft.

He would bounce around the league spending time with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins but found a home with the Green Bay Packers in 1996 and was part of the team that won Super Bowl XXXI.

    TJ Rush

The multi-sport athlete left his mark on two programs during his time at Mosley. Rush was a three-time state champion in the 100-meter dash (1993-95) and a two-time state champion in the 200 (1994-95).

Rush recorded the nation's fastest 200-meter time (21.03 seconds) in his senior season. As a senior, he was named an All-State kick returner on the football field, too. He would sign a track scholarship with the University of Arkansas, where he was named an All-American for the 200 in 1998.
