CPSD Middle School Algebra One Program Sparks Debate
Algebra 1 has long been at the heart of Cambridge’s math controversy, beginning when the district removed it from middle schools in 2017 due to concerns with leveling Algebra 1 was only being provided to the students deemed ready for it, and these were overwhelmingly white or asian, and had higher socioeconomic backgrounds. In August, Algebra 1 returned to preteens, this time through, a course aimed for all, rather than a select few. The results of this change will be spoken about in the School Committee meeting on June 11th.

BHS project in ‘discovery phase’
BURLINGTON - The Burlington High School (BHS) is being thoroughly evaluated by various entities. Bob Cunha, director of operations for Burlington Public Schools, confirmed at a recent School Committee meeting that the initiative to prepare for improvements at BHS is in the “discovery phase” with numerous activity taking place on the Cambridge Street property, including building scanners, surveys, test-drilling in the parking lots and wetlands, and mechanical engineering and plumbing occurring.

WILMINGTON — The School Committee approved updates to the middle and high school handbooks, superintendent evaluation, and committee policies during their June 26 meeting. Among the items for approval were the high school and middle school handbooks, which they approved along with the disposal of furniture at the Shawsheen Street School and disposal for credit of food services equipment.
