    Man strangles, hits victim with a hammer: Police

    MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Trenton Thompson, 20, for allegedly striking a man with a hammer and strangling him.

    July 15, around 8 p.m., police were dispatched to the 400 block of Superior Avenue for a domestic battery call. The victim told officials the incident started when Thompson refused to clean the mud off the floor he tracked into the house with his shoes.

    The man took his shoes to the bathroom to clean them off before he was atacked, according to court records.

    The suspect punched him, hit him in the face with a hammer and stangled him, the vitctim told authorities. The man was able to get thompson off of him after being bit on the ear, according to court documents.

    A woman, who was also at the scene, said she tried to break up the fight but Thompson grabbed her hand so forcefully that she was bruised in the process, according to police.

    The hammer was collected for evidence.

    Thompson is being charged with aggravated battery of a victim age 60 or older, aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon, two counts of domestic battery and bodily harm and aggravated domestic battery and strangling.
