Dallas Center Family Apart of Seven to Receive 2024 Way We Live Award

The Iowa State Fair has selected Brewer Farms out of Dallas Center as a representative for the 2024 Way We Live Award. According to the State Fair Association, this is the 16th year the award has been given out, recognizing 89 Iowa families. Brewer Farms has been in operation since 1875, serving Dallas Center with 125 cow/calf pairs. The fair association claims that family members are involved with the Dallas County Fair on some level each year.

Claiming the number nine spot for PCM top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is senior basketball player Jake Wendt breaking the school record for rebounds in a game. Wendt broke the record against Greene County on January 29th where he recorded 21 rebounds. The Mustangs defeated the Rams in that game 62-57. Wendt moved into fourth all time for rebounds in PCM school history as he had 240 rebounds in his senior season which was first in the conference by a large margin. Wendt started all 23 games for the Mustangs last season and also averaged 12.2 points per game and 3.1 assists per game. Wendt earned first team all-conference honors and graduated this past spring. He will attend Iowa State University this fall.

An October murder trial has been set for a Columbia man charged with shooting a man to death in 2021 and then fleeing to Iowa. Boone County Circuit Judge Jeff Harris has scheduled the trial for 39-year-old Mark Alan Achterberg for October 1 through October 4. Achterberg is charged in Boone County Circuit Court with first degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s accused of shooting and killing Justin Stidham in November 2021.

OSKALOOSA — An accident in Oskaloosa yesterday involving a pickup truck and the Oskaloosa Snow Biz resulted in injuries to the driver of the truck. The 2024 college football season is almost here, which means it is time to get ready to root for your Iowa Hawkeyes as they begin a new season in Iowa City. How will the offense look with Tim Lester replacing Brian Ferentz as the playcaller in 2024? The season officially gets underway against Illinois State on Aug. 31 before the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game. The Hawkeyes came out victorious over the Cyclones, 20-13. Iowa will have a major test on Oct. 5 when they travel to the Shoe to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. The following week the Washington Huskies come to Iowa City for the first time since the 1964 season. The Hawkeyes were able to defend the home turf on that day, fans hope that history repeats itself. One notable road trip on the back half of the schedule is the game against the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl.
