Macon residents will soon have a new place for fun. The Bibb Skate Arena will soon open under new ownership as Level Up Family Entertainment Center.

The skating rink was a Macon staple for about 60 years before changing hands and eventually closing for good, according to new owner Joel Shiver.

“It closed due to a combination of economic challenges and changing recreational interests at the time,” Shiver said. “It was previously owned by a local family who had operated it for several decades and passed it onto a worker and then later closed.”

Shiver said he wanted to bring back a piece of history to the community and create a place where families can come together for a safe, fun, and family-friendly experience. He said revitalizing the popular Bibb Skate Arena site felt like the perfect way to do that.

    A Facebook post read:

“We are thrilled to announce that the beloved Bibb Skate Arena, an icon in our community for decades will roll on once again! After being closed for 10 years, we are excited to bring back this cherished piece of history with a fresh new look as the Level Up Family Entertainment Center!”

What Level Up Family Entertainment Center will offer

The new entertainment center will offer roller skating, a state-of-the-art arcade, an indoor playground, laser tag, and birthday party packages.

Shriver said it will also create jobs and support local vendors, contributing to the economic growth of our community.

“We are committed to offering a top-tier family entertainment experience, with a variety of activities that cater to all ages,” Shiver said. “Our goal is to make Level Up Family Entertainment Center a community hub where everyone feels welcome and can have a great time.”

Shiver, who also owns Gray-8-Skate Family Entertainment Center in Gray, said he is hoping to open in August and a more definitive date will be announced soon.

Level Up Family Entertainment Center is at 5335 Hawkinsville Rd. in Macon.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome everyone to Level Up Family Entertainment Center,” Shiver said. “Stay tuned for our opening date and special promotions.”
