Macon residents are donating money to help the owner of the now-closed Oh Honey Baking Co. and her employees after the shop was shut down.

Located in Macon’s historic Ingleside Village, Oh Honey Baking Co. was opened in June 2022 by owner and cake designer Adriana Horton. Despite outcry from loyal patrons, the business closed unexpectedly earlier this month. The business’ Facebook page announced the closure with a “heavy heart.”

A GoFundMe page has now been created by long-time patron of the bakery Madison McNulty.

McNulty said the GoFundMe account was created to collect money for the employees of Oh Honey Baking Co. so they would not have to go without financial assistance during the rough transition period.

Employees were notified on the day of the closure that they no longer had a job.

“We will be donating the money to a designated member of the Oh Honey team to distribute among themselves in order to cover living expenses,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking to know that the employees were left with no jobs at such a short notice, and is frankly disrespectful to the staff that depended on that job to pay their bills.”

McNulty went on to say the page was made to be something the staff could hold onto during a stressful and chaotic time.

A petition started in support of Oh Honey Baking Co. in Macon, GA has more than 1,100 signatures just 24 hours after being created. The business announced via social media on Monday that is was permanently closing its door effective immediately. change.org

In a message on the page McNulty thanked everyone that has donated and stated as time passes, it’s vital to continue being public about helping the team at Oh Honey so the $5,000 goal could be reached.

Immediately following the closure, a petition was started on Change.org by McNulty. The petition had more than 1,700 signatures Tuesday with a goal of 3,000.

“We are hoping to reach about 3,000 signatures, but even the sheer amount of signatures we have now is more than enough to show the public that the community cares about Adrianna’s business and employees,” she said.

McNaulty said the petition was still gaining signatures Tuesday and is steadily growing. She said replies to the petition have been heartwarming.

The petition was edited shortly after being created with an addition that reads:

“Edit: It’s important to note that Oh Honey Baking Co. is a woman owned business that provides Allergen Friendly food options and acts as one of the few LGBT+ safe spaces in the town and general area surrounding.”

    Horton declined to comment.

The GoFundMe account has raised $650 of its $5,000 goal.

“Adrianna provided delicious baked goods of all sorts, including vegan and gluten free items that genuinely tasted divine, and we are waiting with baited breath to see if or where she will open her next business,” McNulty said.
