In fact, this year marks the 71st year of Kiddieland’s existence in Pittsburg. The day began with a Firecracker 5K bright and early this morning, a car show through the lunch hour, and radio-controlled airplane demos. There were also pickleball, cornhole, and disc golf tournaments, as well as lots of people enjoying those Kiddieland rides, all in the name of “fun.”
17-year-old sentenced to prison for shooting death of Lawrence teenager
OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - The 17-year-old who pleaded guilty to the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl from Lawrence has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison. Johnson County, Kansas, District Court records indicate that Davon D. Washington, 17, of Olathe, has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for the shooting death of 15-year-old Brianna Higgins, of Lawrence.

Citizen asks Great Bend council to revisit golf cart ordinance
In a span of six weeks, legalizing golf carts on city streets has been discussed three times at Great Bend City Council meetings. On May 20, the council did not have the minimum of five votes needed to pass a new ordinance. The topic was revisited June 17 with more council members present, but the governing body voted 6-to-1 to deny making golf carts legal on city streets, citing lack of support, safety and extra enforcement for the police department as reasons against the idea.
