MADISON, NJ - A new scam is hitting the Madison area. According to borough officials, someone fraudulently posing as an ADT representative have been texting residents about upgrading their alarm system.

The fraudster would then come to the residence to allegedly perform an upgrade. Once at the home, the fake representative would, according to reports, be "brash, ask many questions and canvass the residence for current security measures", said officials.

On each occasion, the imposter did not have any ID, insignia, or documentation proving that they were legitimately affiliated with ADT. The residents realized that something was suspicious about the fraudster and asked them to leave their homes without further incident.

ADT is aware of this current trend and states that a genuine ADT advisor or dealer will carry proper company-issued identification.
