Ohio Family, it might be time to put down the chili, pizza, and corned beef…

A recent study by fitness app Flex AI has ranked Ohio among the most obese states in the U.S., landing us in 7th place nationwide. The study found that 38.1% of Ohio adults have a body mass index ( BMI ) of 30 or higher , which classifies as obese. This percentage is higher than Delaware’s 37.9% but slightly lower than Alabama’s 38.3%.

In comparison, Colorado, the least obese state, has an adult obesity rate of 25%. The study names West Virginia as the most obese state, with 41% of adults falling into the obese category.

Flex AI CEO Amin Niri commented on the results saying:

The US is one of the most obese countries in the world, with its ranking significantly higher when focusing on high-income countries. While there are numerous factors which play a part in this, the large portion sizes consumed by many Americans and inactive lifestyles are largely responsible. The combination of a higher calorie intake combined with less movement to burn through the excess inevitably results in weight gain.
