Mississippi school district mourns death of seventh-grader killed in two-vehicle wreck

A 12-year-old Mississippi boy was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday evening.

The faculty and students at the Mount Olive Attendance Center are mourning the death of seventh-grader Josiah Hutton.

Officials from the Covington County School District posted a message on social media about the 12-year-old’s death and about another student who was injured in the wrexk.

“It is with our deepest sympathy that we extend our condolences to the family of Josiah Hutton.

Josiah passed away on August 19, 2024, in an automobile accident. He was a seventh-grade student at Mount Olive Attendance Center. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. If you knew him, you could only love his kind and friendly personality.

Senior student Tristan Hutton was also in the accident and needs your prayers for comfort and healing.”

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 5:30 p.m., on Highway 532 in Covington County.

12-year-old Josiah Hutton and his cousin, 17-year-old Tristan T. Hutton, were in a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east when they collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram traveling west.

Josiah was pronounced dead on the scene. Tristan, the driver of the Malibu, and the driver of the Ram were both transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
