A 22-year-old Mississippi man is in custody following a late-night kidnapping and high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Yazoo County.

WLBT in Jackson reports that Jackson Police officers responded to a disturbance call on Marblehead Drive in Jackson at 11:23 p.m. Saturday night.

Upon arrival, they were informed that Jamarion Merritt, 22, had kidnapped his girlfriend. Surveillance footage provided to the police confirmed the report.

Authorities quickly determined that Merritt was driving north on Highway 49 toward Yazoo City in a stolen 2019 Infiniti QX60. Precinct 4 officers, working alongside the Mississippi Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies, located Merritt’s vehicle and initiated a pursuit.

The chase came to a violent end when the Infiniti crashed in Yazoo County, ejecting Merritt from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.

After receiving medical care, Merritt was taken into custody and transported to Jackson Police headquarters for questioning. He faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, simple domestic violence, auto theft, and felony fleeing.

The condition of the girlfriend has not been released, according to WLBT.
