It’s opening day for an express version of a popular local Thai restaurant.

Tuptim Thai Express will serve many of the same dishes as its sister restaurant — Tuptim Thai at 2121 N. Rock Road — but in a quick-service setting. The restaurant has taken over the space at 1317 N. Maize Road that was recently vacated by No. 1 Kitchen.

Its hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Owner Johnny Chandra said that he wanted to expand his Tuptim Thai restaurant, which opened at 2121 N. Rock Road in October 2018, to the west side when he noticed that its Thai food options were limited.

The menu at Tuptim Thai Express is smaller than the one at the original restaurant but includes lots of appetizers and dishes like pad Thai, pad see ew, Thai curry bowls and fried rice. The menu can be viewed on the new restaurant’s website, www.tuptimthaiexpress.com . That’s where customers also can place online orders.

People who visit the restaurant will order their food at the counter and can either take it to go or stay and dine in.
