According to WFAA , four individuals lost their lives Saturday in Grand Prairie after an SUV was struck by a man who is believed to have been street racing.

Grand Prairie Police Department reported the crash occurred on South Belt Line Road at Kingston Drive at approximately 8:15 p.m.

On Belt Line heading north, a Chevy Traverse was transporting five passengers. Authorities say a red Dodge Charger was involved in the collision that occurred when the Suv turned left onto Kingston.

Officials reported that three victims from the Traverse passed away on the spot, while a fourth succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital. The health of a fifth Traverse passenger began to decline rapidly.

No identities of the victims have been announced at this time.

According to the police, eyewitnesses saw the Charger racing another Dodge Charger Daytona and going at a high pace. Police said the Daytona fled the site of the accident after it happened.

Police have identified the driver of the Charger that collided with the Traverse as 20-year-old Irving resident Jaime Mesa. His wounds were not life-threatening, so he was sent to the nearest hospital.

Mesa is facing accusations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, manslaughter, serious bodily injury, and racing on a highway causing death.
