Orange County to Purchase Maple Avenue Building
CHESTER – On Monday, July 9, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus officially signed the resolution, entering into an agreement to purchase the Maple Avenue Building located in the Village of Chester. The future of the building has been under consideration for some time, including a failed referendum in 2019 until on July 2nd, the Orange County Legislature moved the process of acquiring ownership along with a unanimous vote.

Monster Run Classic in Monticello set for August 4th
MONTICELLO – The Monticello Rotary Club 46th annual Monster Run Classic will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 4th at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello. The proceeds from the 2024 Monster Classic race will benefit the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition and is an event run by Monticello Rotary as part of Sullivan County Patriots Day. The race consists of 5K and 10K running and 5K walk events for the whole family. This course proves to be challenging and is considered by many one of the best run/walk courses in the area.
OC students to get free admission to Storm King Art Center
Senator James Skoufis (D-42) recently announced that, thanks to a $50,000 grant, Storm King Art Center will allow all Orange County students up to 21 with valid ID free admission through 2024 and 2025. This includes admission to the grounds and access to public and family programming. Storm King Art Center is a 500-acre outdoor museum with large-scale sculptures set against the backdrop of Orange County’s landscape.

Hunter Tier Proponents Criticize Mayor
It didn’t take long for Westhab/Washingtonville Housing Alliance (WHA) and their proponents to lash out at Mayor Sharon Torres’ statement she excerpted and read at the July 8, 2024 Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees (see HERE). In response, Torres posted a statement on social media reiterating her position on the project (which has not changed since she was sworn in as Mayor in December 2023). Torres has stated all along that she supports affordable housing, but the Hunter Tier Project process has been deeply flawed. See HERE.
