Manassa 5k sees record participation
MANASSA– An all-time high of 535 participants registered for the annual Manassa Pioneer Days 5k walk-run with a second record of 476 recorded as finishers Saturday in the 47-year history of the family-oriented event, according to longtime race organizer Ed Creery. He also estimated close to 3,000 spectators there to witness the race finish.

MANASSA– Baily Bishop rides her horse around the first barrel Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Days Rodeo in Manassa. Bishop was the Open Barrel Racing champion with a time of 17.59 seconds and received a new saddle. Also receiving saddles were Open Team Roping champions Colby Crowther and Kalob Lepp and Open Tie-Down Roping champion Travis Canty. Saddle sponsors were Crowther Ranches, Seal Cattle Ranch, and the El Pomar Foundation. Complete rodeo results were not available prior to publication.

US census takers to conduct test runs in Colorado 4 years before 2030 count
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Six places in the South and West will host practice runs for the next U.S. head count in 2030. The census helps determine political power and the distribution of federal funds. Residents of western Texas; tribal lands in Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado.; western North Carolina; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Huntsville, Alabama, will be encouraged to fill out practice census questionnaires in the spring of 2026. Census Bureau officials said Monday that they hope the tests will help ensure that in 2030, they count the people who were missed in the 2020 census.
