An American Airlines flight bound for Manchester, New Hampshire, was forced to divert on Wednesday after a man allegedly exposed himself and urinated in the aisle of the plane.

The 25-year-old man from Oregon was arrested and charged with indecent exposure once the flight landed at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. He was later released after making his initial appearance in federal court in Buffalo, as per a statement from the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.

Following the incident, the American Eagle flight resumed its journey from Buffalo, according to an email statement from American Airlines. "We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding," read the statement.

The accused told officers that he had been flying from Portland, Oregon, to Manchester and had consumed several whiskey and colas before boarding the flight, during a layover in Chicago , and after re-boarding. He claimed that he got up to use the restroom and was returning to his seat when the incident occurred due to a medical urination problem, as stated in the criminal complaint.

An email has been sent to his federal public defender seeking comment on the matter. The incident comes as a Delta Air Lines flight was also forced to divert on Wednesday after passengers were served "spoiled" food.

The aircraft was en route from Detroit to Amsterdam when it made an emergency landing at New York's JFK airport. Medical personnel were at the scene when the plane landed and treated 12 passengers, the Fire Department of New York said.

An angry traveler claimed passengers had been given "contaminated" food during the flight. The woman, named Virgina, wrote on X:"@delta I need to know how you're going to get me to Amsterdam today - I'm on the plane that's emergency landing at JFK because you served passengers 'contaminated' food - I don't need hotel/food vouchers I need to arrive in Amsterdam today."

Delta apologized for the "inconvenience and delay" to travelers' plans. In a statement about the incident, the airline said: "Delta flight 126 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York's JFK early Wednesday morning after it was discovered that a portion of the in-flight meal service was spoiled."

"Medical crews were on site to meet the aircraft and treat any affected passengers and crew members. Delta teams will immediately work to gather information into how this incident occurred. This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels."

Since the incident, Delta has pulled some meal options from dozens of flights. The airline was only serving pasta in the main cabin on around 75 international flights on Wednesday.
