MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — James Froelich was sworn-in as Mandan’s new mayor during an official ceremony July 2.

The swearing-in took place during the city commission meeting at Mandan City Hall late Tuesday afternoon, as Froelich’s mother held a bible that he placed his hand on to take the oath of office.

Froelich was elected mayor June 11 during city elections and he replaces outgoing Mayor Tim Helbling, who decided not to seek another term in office after serving as mayor since 2016.

As he begins his term, Froelich says he has a lot on his plate as Mandan is experiencing an expansion in population and economic development. “There’s a lot of subdivisions going in and potential construction with Memorial Highway that seems to be on the agenda for the last 10 years,” he explained.

Froelich noted that a new school opening up was among several other new construction projects that have sprung up across the city. “Just lots of good things. It’s a beautiful little community [that] is not so little anymore. So, yeah we have a lot to offer,” expressed Froelich.

Froelich adds that he looks forward to the working with Mandan’s City Commission in advancing the city’s priorities in a positive way while maintaining fiscal responsibility in overseeing the city’s budget.
