    MANITOWOC – This week at Manitowoc Public Library, participate in a book discussion, group games on the library’s lawn and stories with yoga poses for elementary school-aged children.

    At the library this week:

    • “MPL Insider: Beyond the Books with Tim & Emily” — 12:30 p.m. Streams live on the library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. A behind-the-scenes look at Manitowoc Public Library staff, services, patrons and events. This month’s guests are Homebound Services Associate Margo Meyer and new One-to-One Adult Literacy Partners Coordinator Patti Fellows.
    • Book discussion: “The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise,” by Colleen Oakley — 6-7 p.m. July 18 in the second-floor board room.
    • “Whatcha Watching?” — 6-7 p.m. July 18. Streams live on the library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. This is the “Summer Blockbuster Edition” and will discuss summer movies.
    • Navigating Your Job Search Journey Workshop — 10 a.m.-noon July 22. Join an interactive workshop on effective job search strategies.
    • Family Activity Night: Group Games — 6:30-7:15 p.m. July 23. Join the library’s Miss Lynn and 4-H’s Miss Emma on the library lawn for group games. If weather is bad, the event will move to the Balkansky Community Room. Open to children 5-11. No registration is necessary.
    • Teen Hang-Out: Meditation and Movement — Beginner’s Tai Chi — 1-2 p.m. July 24. Take the first steps on a Tai Chi journey with Ray Gates, founder of the Wisconsin Tai Chi Academy. Gates will teach this one-hour class for beginners. No equipment is needed. Space is limited and registration is required. Visit www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/teen-tai-chi to secure a spot.
    • Yoga with Miss Lisa — 2-2:45 p.m. July 24. Families with elementary school-aged children are invited to join in stories with yoga poses lead by the library’s Miss Lisa. No equipment needed. No registration required.

    Story times:

    • Baby Storytime — 9:30 a.m. July 18, 24 and 25. Recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are welcome. No registration required.
    • Preschool Storytime — 10:30 a.m. July 18, 24 and 25. Recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are welcome. No registration required.
    • Storytime on the Road: Horsin’ Around at Rahr-West Art Museum — 10-11:30 a.m. July 19. Miss Sharon will lead story time outside by the museum’s new equine sculpture; then head inside for a horse-related art project led by the museum’s resident art teacher. Great for preschool and early grade students. The museum is at 610 N. Eighth St.

    Ongoing events and programs:

    • Brew ’N Bee IV: You Can’t Spell “Bee” Without “B” — Registration is open for the fourth annual event at PetSkull Brewing Company’s Outdoor Beer Garden from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24. Participation fee is $20; registration is required at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/brew-n-bee-4.
    • Summer Reading Program — Runs through Aug. 10. Read or be read to a total of 30 days to complete the program and earn weekly prizes just by reading.
    • “American Farmer: A Photo-Portrait Exhibition” — On view through Oct. 20 on the library’s first floor. Features 45 full-color and black-and-white portraits and interviews with farmers across the United States by photographer Paul Mobley.
    • Employment and career assistance — Department of Workforce Development staff provide on-site services in MPL’s Franklin Street Room for both employment assistance and career counseling between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. Drop-in employment assistance includes resume writing, help with online applications, assistance registering in Job Center of Wisconsin, and more, and no is appointment needed.
