Three more condemned houses to be torn down
Three condemned houses in Kewanee will be demolished, following action by the City Council Monday. Boers Excavating was the low bidder to tear down a house at 210 S. Walnut St. for $7,000, one at 701 E. Fifth St. for $5,500 and a third at 717 Florence St. for $9,000.

Henry County to Increase Rail Crossing Safety with New Automatic Warning Devices near Kewanee
Henry County can expect to see enhanced safety measures at a key intersection after the Illinois Commerce Commission signed off on a stipulated agreement that will usher in automatic warning devices at the County Road 2450 East highway-rail grade crossing, located on the tracks of the BNSF Rail Company near Kewanee.

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties with RaeAnn Tucker to talk about student immunizations and physicals, the upcoming flu season, and mosquitoes. First Choice Healthcare clinics are holding “Pop Up Walk-in” school and sports exam days this week, August 12th to August 16th, all day at the clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon. These special clinics offer school and sports physicals for $40, but bring insurance information if you have insurance. The clinics offer physicals for junior and senior high school athletes, freshmen, sixth graders, kindergarteners, and preschoolers. Council considers ‘mining’ local cell phone info
Cell phones are useful devices that many people feel they couldn’t live without. Cell phones are also a source of information for companies that know how to collect it. And City Manager Gary Bradley said Monday that he’d like for the city government to have access to that information.
Henry and Stark County Relay For Life 2024 Walk for A Cure on August 17th
The 2024 Henry and Stark County Relay for Life walk is on Saturday, August 17th, from 6 to 10 PM, in Windmont Park, in Kewanee. A small group of volunteers plans this yearly event: “Our focus is to celebrate our survivors, honor those still fighting, and to remember those we have lost to cancer.” You can find luminary forms at Breedloves, the State Bank of Toulon, Peoples National Bank, and Hair Trends. You can purchase a luminary on Saturday night at the event as well. The goal is to raise $40,000 this year, but they need your help to fight cancer and celebrate cancer survivors. They have raised $5,827.92 so far and there are two days left before the survivor walk. You can donate here, join the relay, or purchase luminaries here. You can join the cancer survivors during the open walk from 7 to 9 PM.
