Henry and Stark County Relay For Life 2024 Walk for A Cure on August 17th
The 2024 Henry and Stark County Relay for Life walk is on Saturday, August 17th, from 6 to 10 PM, in Windmont Park, in Kewanee. A small group of volunteers plans this yearly event: “Our focus is to celebrate our survivors, honor those still fighting, and to remember those we have lost to cancer.” You can find luminary forms at Breedloves, the State Bank of Toulon, Peoples National Bank, and Hair Trends. You can purchase a luminary on Saturday night at the event as well. The goal is to raise $40,000 this year, but they need your help to fight cancer and celebrate cancer survivors. They have raised $5,827.92 so far and there are two days left before the survivor walk. You can donate here, join the relay, or purchase luminaries here. You can find out more information on the Relay for Life of Henry & Stark Counties Facebook page. The opening ceremony is at 6 PM, and the survivor lat begins at 6:30 PM. You can join the cancer survivors during the open walk from 7 to 9 PM.

Girls Little League team wraps up season undefeated
The Kewanee Park District’s Girls Little League finished up and this year’s the champions were the Breedloves Sporting Goods team. Coached by Jarrod Galli and Nichelle Morey, the girls finished their season with an 8-0 record. Team members were Emmelyn Swearingen, Karlee Branom, Addison Talbot, Ivy Ouart, Addisyn Ingle, Kamdyn Powell, Piper Galli, Meagan Ouart, Taylor Fink, Piper Acuff, Scarlett Morey and Jorrie Miskinis.

RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties with RaeAnn Tucker to talk about student immunizations and physicals, the upcoming flu season, and mosquitoes. First Choice Healthcare clinics are holding “Pop Up Walk-in” school and sports exam days this week, August 12th to August 16th, all day at the clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon. These special clinics offer school and sports physicals for $40, but bring insurance information if you have insurance. The clinics offer physicals for junior and senior high school athletes, freshmen, sixth graders, kindergarteners, and preschoolers. Friends of the Hennepin Hike on August 18, 2024, at Lock 21
The August Friends of the Hennepin “Kingfisher” Hike is on August 18, 2024, at 1:30 PM, from Lock 17 to Lock 21, which is about 3.2 miles. Participants should meet at Lock 21 (Lift Bridge) at 1:30 PM and will be shuttled to Lock 17 to begin the hike. Lock 21 is located approximately three miles west of Wyanet at Highways 6 and 34. Membership in the Friends of the Hennepin Canal is not required to join the monthly hikes, and there is no fee for the hike. They suggest you dress appropriately for the weather.
