Austin PD investigates fatal crash on Research Boulevard
AUSTIN, Texas — A fatal collision on Research Boulevard early Thursday morning left one man dead and another facing DWI charges, according to the Austin Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 1:09 a.m. on July 4, 2024, in the 11800 block of Research Boulevard NB. A blue SUV stalled in a lane of traffic was struck from behind by a gray SUV. The passenger of the blue SUV, an Asian male, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the gray SUV, 54-year-old Calory Wabusia, sustained minor injuries and was later arrested for DWI.
