Oregon football history: Ducks, Illinois Fighting Illini set to start series up again
It’s been a pretty long time since the Oregon Ducks football program has had the chance to meet up with the Illinois Fighting Illini, but that’s going to change sooner rather than later as the Oregon Ducks migrate on over to the Big Ten from the Pac-12. The...

Illini Football: One Team on their Schedule they May Upset
A Potential Upset For the 2024 Illini Football Season. Looking ahead at the schedule, I consider there to be a true potential upset candidate on the Illinois Football schedule for 2024. I think the Fighting Illini will have a shot at the Kansas Jayhawks for a couple of reasons. Lance Leipold’s squad jumped out of the gates hot in 2023 and made the Illini pay in the first half. Offensively, Kansas torched Illinois’ defense, jumping out 28-7 in Lawrence at the break. Though Aaron Henry’s squad showed resilience and held the Jayhawks to only 6 points in the 2nd half, it was not enough to recover.
Rafael Raap Joins Illini Track & Field: A Game-Changer for Combined Events
CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – When it comes to building a powerhouse, you don’t just sit back and wait for talent to come to you. You go out and get it. That’s exactly what Petros Kyprianou, the Director of Illinois Track, Field, and Cross Country, did by announcing the addition of All-American Rafael Raap from Oregon on Wednesday, June 26. This sophomore sensation earned his first-career All-America honors at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon, racking up an impressive 7,842 points to finish sixth.
Illini beef up nonconference hoops schedule: 'We're never going to shy away from playing anybody'
CHAMPAIGN — Brad Underwood hasn't been bashful about beefing up his program's nonconference schedule. For good reason. The Illini once again are a national draw. Illinois will play four teams in the nonconference ranked in ESPN's way-too-early Top 25: Alabama (2), Duke (8), Tennessee (13) and Arkansas (18). Though there's no guarantee those teams will be ranked at the time of their respective games, the rosters are good enough to assume that those will be games against ranked opponents. Illinois also will play its annual Braggin' Rights game against Missouri, an SEC opponent, in St. Louis.

Good Morning, Illini Nation: Illinois offers 2025 guard Brandon Lee
Jun. 28—Orlando Antigua has made his presence known on the recruiting trail since his return to Illinois this spring. The Illini's new associate head coach, who spent four seasons in Champaign at the beginning of the Brad Underwood era, was instrumental in getting Croatian center Tomislav Ivisic and five-star Canadian wing Will Riley on board for the 2024-25 season. Antigua's influence can ...
Green Street: Illini women's basketball and the WNBA draft
Jun. 28—You have to go back to 2010 to find the last time the Illinois women's basketball team had a former player as a WNBA draft pick. Fourteen years and counting. The 2024 version, which took place on April 15 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and saw Iowa star guard Caitlin Clark go No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever, was the 14th draft since Illinois Hall of Famer and ex-Illini center Jenna Smith was the ...
How the 2024 U.S. Open became a springboard for these University of Illinois golfers
Jackson Buchanan felt aimless through the first nine holes of his opening round at the U.S. Open. The scorecard swelled to 7-over-par at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 course before quickly recovering. He dispensed any second thoughts the rest of the way and finished 6-over by the end of the second round. Although he missed...

Jun. 28—CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women's basketball team's nonconference schedule has yet to be finalized. Or at least be officially announced. But it's clear Shauna Green took into consideration how tough the third-year Illini coach expects the Big Ten to be next winter — especially with the additions of Southern California and UCLA — as she formulated a plan for the ideal nonconference ...
