The Maple Plain city council is moving forward to finance its 2024 street improvement projects, according to the latest city council meeting on May 28. Late last year, plans were devised to improve Independence Street, Bryant Street between Budd Avenue and Howard Avenue, and Wyman Avenue.

All roads will undergo full reconstruction, including replacing water main and sanitary sewer pipes and services, and will be paved with a new bituminous pavement. Independence Street will get a new storm sewer, concrete curb and gutter.

A new concrete curb and gutter will be built on Wyman Avenue, which will also be widened to the same width as Bryant Street. Bryant Street will get a new storm sewer, concrete curb and gutter.

Funding for these projects will come from General Obligation (GO) bonds with $4,890,000 worth of bonds to be sold. These bonds will be brought to market on behalf of Maple Plain by Northland Securities. Interested bidders can begin submitting proposals at 10 a.m. on June 24, with the council meeting to consider the proposals at 7 p.m. the same day.

Construction will begin on Independence Street on June 10.

The council approved a contract to bring in a Hennepin County Assessor. Property assessments are typically done by cities, though the Hennepin County Commissioners voted to assess cities of fewer than 30,000 free of charge.

Maple Plain will need to provide all information, records, data, reports, and a furnished office for Hennepin County to do so, but this will save Maple Plain $20,000 per year.
