Petco Love Urges Pet Parents to Register Their Cats and Dogs on Love Lost Ahead of July 4th Holiday

National nonprofit Petco Love urges people who lose or find a pet to use Love Lost, its national lost and found pet database, to reunite those pets with the families that love them, including in Pierce County. More pets go missing July 4th than any other day often ending up at already overwhelmed and crowded animal shelters across the country. Pet parents can register their cats and dogs on Love Lost today while their pets are safe at home and in case the unthinkable happens and their pet goes missing tomorrow.

Residents Encouraged to Prepare as Temperatures Rise
TACOMA, Wash. – With temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s anticipated starting July 5, the City of Tacoma is encouraging residents to prepare for the heat. Residents are also encouraged to keep an eye on older adults, people with health concerns and children in their households, as these individuals are at a greater risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Applications for 2024 Grit City Trees Program Due September 2
TACOMA, Wash — Grit City Trees is the City of Tacoma’s free street tree program. Applications for the 2024 season are being accepted now through September 2, 2024. Through this program, the City seeks to equitably increase Tacoma’s tree canopy while growing happy and healthy neighborhoods through community tree planting. Planting more trees throughout neighborhoods has proven to help keep places cool during the hottest days, manage stormwater runoff, slow neighborhood traffic, provide mental health benefits, and more. Since 2016, the Grit City Trees program has provided 1,867 trees to the Tacoma community.

Georgetown restaurant targeted in smash-and-grab
SEATTLE — Early Wednesday morning, Kauai Family Restaurant in Georgetown became the latest business to fall victim to the smash-and-grab trend in Seattle. Owner Peter Buza said two people crashed a car into the front of the building until they were able to gain access.
