The 2024 Junior Gold Championship Bowling Tournament in Detroit, Mich. was hosted by the USBC (United States Bowling Conference) and the Junior Gold Industry Partners – Brunswick, Dexter, Hammer, IAM Bowling, Kegek, Lanetalk, Motiv, Storm, and Bowler’s Ed.

The tournament was held July 15 – 20; qualifying tournaments were held at bowling alleys all over the United States.

There were 3,114 boys and girls who qualified to bowl in the tournament. Many did not qualify. Age groups included U12, U15 and U18.

Maddox Mott, 14, from Marble Falls, qual- ified in San Antonio to bowl in the 2024 Detroit tournament. Maddox will be a freshman at Marble Falls High School this year.

The patterns were the toughest with many games, blind sport patterns, and different time blocks. Maddox was a class act, competing like he had done this before.

Mott stayed focused and didn’t let the bad shots/frames bother him.

He moved on and did his best. This was his first year of tournaments and

    second year of bowling.

What a week he had. He destroyed his finger in the last set, blistering up after the first game but he powered through the next three games and scored his highest series of 811.

There were 613 boys in his age group, and he finished at #192. Only seven boys from Tex- as finished in the top 200. Maddox received a scholarship for $150.
