The municipalities have until Nov. 18 to correct any remaining deficiencies or risk losing the discounts April 1, 2025. David Silverberg, a retired editor at Homeland Security Today who covered FEMA throughout his career, said the federal agency’s goal is for communities to harden and become more resilient so the same structures don’t have to be rebuilt after each hurricane. He said keeping the discount requires meeting or exceeding the standards and possibly could result in a discount increase, WINK News reports.
