    About the Gospel Cop

Mervin Mayo is the Gospel Cop. He is a Richmond native, a longtime Richmond Police Department officer, and a school resource officer.

    Mayo said:

“It’s been crazy that’s why I tell people to be careful what you wish for because you might get it."

Mayo has been singing his whole life. He sings in church and at school. He says it just comes naturally. He has been singing all around the country while keeping his full-time job.

    Mayo added:

“I work Mondays through Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I just want to relax. I’m on somebody’s plane in somebody’s state every weekend, but I’m grateful for it, you know, I get to spread the gospel, so I’m grateful for it.”

So, what’s next for the “Gospel Cop”?

Mayo says he is considering retiring in October to concentrate on his music and ministry full-time. He admits he doesn't want to leave the kids after 20 years but believes it is time for him to do so.
