WRIC 8 News reported that the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating a missing 101-year-old woman.

According to Virginia State Police, Dorothy Sue Wallace was last seen driving on Route 1 in Brunswick County, heading north at around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

    About the missing woman

Wallace stands about five feet four inches and weighs around 150 pounds with grey hair and brown eyes.

The missing woman is believed to have been driving a grey 2002 Honda Odyssey with Virginia tags UJJ1500, wearing a polka-dot hat and glasses.

Anyone who believes they may have seen Wallace or has information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Office at 804-469-4550.

    Age recommended to stop driving

Surprisingly, Wallace was still driving at her age. According to the U.S. Census and Federal Highway Administration, drivers 85 and older are most likely to stop driving, with 66% of the population no longer licensed by that age.

However, the average age at which people give up driving is 75, and the decision to stop depends on many factors. Some warning signs that driving skills may deteriorate include health conditions, slowing reaction times, and deteriorating vision.

The woman's age has long surpassed the time recommended for driving. Hopefully, she will soon be found safe and returned to her family.
