    If you ask Richmonders how the historic Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia got its name, most of them would say it is because famous people are buried there.

    Even though famous people such as former U.S. Presidents James Monroe and John Tyler are buried in Hollywood Cemetery, the name has absolutely nothing to do with the Hollywood in California that is associated with celebrities.

    Hollywood Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery located at 412 South Cherry Street in the Oregon Hill neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. It was established in 1847 and designed by the landscape architect John Notman. It is 135-acres in size and overlooks the James River.

    The name Hollywood Cemetery is based on the native American Holly trees that are scattered throughout cemetery that provide shade for the graves, according to the Hollywood Cemetery website.
