There is no shortage of apples in Virginia. That's because Virginia is the sixth-largest apple-producing state.

The Virginia apple industry contributes an estimated $235 million annually to the state's economy because Virginia growers produce an average of 5-6 billion bushels of apples every year. That is possible because warm days, cool nights, and a rich, deep soil nurtured by consistent rainfall make Virginia's climate ideal for growing apple varieties.

Apples are produced in Virginia, but they do not stay in Virginia. They are destined for markets in 15 states and more than 20 countries.

    Versatility of Virginia apples

Seventy percent of Virginia apples are sold for processing and made into popular products such as applesauce, apple juice, apple butter, apple slices, apple cider, and apple cider vinegar. And don't forget the delicious apple pie.
