Lindsey's Sunflower and Homecoming Festival offers up vendors, food, fun and games
The second annual Lindsey Sunflower and Homecoming Festival was held at Wendelle C. Miller Park on Saturday with 45 craft vendors in the Vendor Village and nine food trucks on the grounds. Davis-Besse's new owner gets licenses extended for its 2 Texas-based nuclear plants
IRVING, Texas — The company that now owns Ohio’s two nuclear plants, Davis-Besse in Ottawa County and Perry in Lake County, has received federal approval to extend the operating licenses of its two Texas-based nuclear plants by 20 years. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission notified Ken J. Peters, Vistra Operations Co. senior vice president and chief nuclear officer, of the extensions for Commanche Peak 1 and 2 by letter on Tuesday. Unit 1’s operating license will now expire Feb. 8, 2050, and Unit 2’s on Feb. 2, 2053. Davis-Besse’s operating license expires April 22, 2037. It was extended in 2015.

June 27 declared Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club Day
On June 27, the Marblehead Peninsula Lions celebrated the 40th anniversary of their Lion’s charter. Danbury Township Trustee Dianne Rozak recognized the event with the following resolution: “Be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of Danbury Township that the 27th day of June, 2024, shall be known as Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club Day in honor and appreciation of the exemplary work performed by the dedicated members of this outstanding organization.”
Melanie Mills saves a nearly lost piece of Ottawa County history
When Melanie Mills purchased the former Red Barn Antiques near Camp Perry in June, 2023, she began a journey of restoring a long-forgotten piece of Ottawa County history. The barn sits on property which also includes the former Grange Dance Hall Building that once sat in downtown Port Clinton and a majestic Victorian home that was built around 1900 for generals who wanted living quarters off the Camp Perry grounds.
Fenwick Marina hosts 3rd Annual Independence Day Celebration
Fenwick Marina of Oak Harbor held their annual Independence Day Celebration on July 5 and 6. Fenwick had a golf cart parade, 50/50 Drawing, several raffles, potluck dinner and a cornhole contest. They also held a raffle for prizes which were donated by area businesses and residents of Fenwick. All proceeds were to be used to benefit veterans.
