MARIANNA, Fla. ( WMBB ) — Marianna High School and Chipola College alum, Amari Brown is committed to Florida A&M University to continue her softball career.

In her sophomore season, Brown led Chipola with 43 RBI and a .368 batting average. The two-way player pitched over 110 innings, stuck out 66, and finished with a 2.97 ERA. In the 2024 season, Brown made just one error all season.

“I’m excited to see a different set of competition,” Brown said. “I know we played high-level ball, but to get to go and play some more teams, a different look at things, a different environment.”

Brown is headed to FAMU as a two-way player.

A bonus for Brown is that her new team will face her old team, Chipola during the fall.

The location also impacted her decision.

“I think it’s a great thing that happened for me, being able to stay close to home,” Brown said. “Still around Chipola, I can come back and watch them. I know we’ll get to face them this year.”

Brown was most recently named Second Team All-American National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She also was named first-team All-Panhandle Conference and second-team All-State this season.
