Maricopa volleyball squad wins at California tourney

The girls 14U team from the Maricopa Starlings Volleyball Club won the gold bracket in the Starlings National Tournament.

The tourney took place in Irvine, Calif., last weekend.

“These girls had to battle through the heat with no AC or swamp coolers in the facility, and nearly every match we played went to 3 sets,” Coach Dani Gonzalez said.

“The grit and determination needed to continue through three long days is unreal. Grinding it out all season consistently four days a week between skills sessions, athlete performance sessions and team practices. It’s been a grueling season so far, but we aren’t done yet.”

The team next competes in the Volleyball Festival at the USAV Nationals in Las Vegas to end the season.
