Underage drunk chased roommates with a cleaver: report

A drunken teenager who chased two people around their Desert Cedars home with a meat cleaver has been jailed, Maricopa Police Department reports.

Police charged Carlos Perez-Alvarez, 19, with underage drinking, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four other domestic violence charges late Thursday night after his roommates dialed 911 and said they feared for their safety.

A roommate tells police Perez-Alvarez was being noisy, and when he asked to keep the volume down, the 19-year-old “began chasing him around the residence” with a butchering knife and “damaged the wall near the kitchen area with the cleaver.”

The blade-wielding adolescent admitted to hatcheting through a kitchen wall and telling his roommate “he was going to cut him” with the butcher’s tool he kept in his bedroom but denied intending to actually injure anyone.

Perez-Alvarez blew an eye-watering .271 blood alcohol content, which is above the threshold for alcohol poisoning in a person of his weight. According to St. John’s University , for a 140-pound man like Perez-Alvarez, death is possible at a .27 or higher.

At a BAC over .25, experts note “aspects of your brain are severely impaired,” “you have little to no physical control” and “you are emotionally numb.”

The aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge is a felony in Arizona, class 3, which carries a minimum sentence of two years in prison and a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

Perez-Alvarez faces a presumptive sentence of two-and-a-half years combined on the other charges. He does not have any prior convictions, court records show.

He sits in the Pinal County Jail on a $2,500 bond and will face a judge on Friday.
